Velo Labs is a startup, based in the U.S., planning to manufacture a smart bike lock. After three years of design and development, Velo is almost ready to release its design to the public.

The smart lock, called the Skylock, is a keyless, solar-powered, smart-phone-aware U-lock. Offered in a number of colors, its functionality is expected to include crash alerts and more.

Founded in 2013, the idea of the Skylock was a big success; founders Jack Al-kahwati and Gerardo Barroeta discovered multiple sources of interest, and successfully raised enough capital to launch the company. Three years later, the smart lock is on its way to the public. Pre-orders are now being taken.

A company with some interesting potential, Velo Labs is worth keeping an eye on.
