Xtracycle Bike Parts & Accessories
Xtracycle is a U.S.-based manufacturer of cargo bikes. One cargo bike, to be precise: the Edgerunner, available with multiple component packages, an extensive range of accessories, and even an electric motor. The Leap do-it-yourself kit allows riders who prefer to modify their own trusty steed to convert almost any adult bike to a full-on cargo carrier. Xtracycles are available anywhere in the world from the company's online store.
Formed in 1998 by Ross Evans, the first model was the Free Radical, the direct predecessor of today's Leap DIY kit. Steady expansion has led to today's manufactory, producing complete bikes as well as the extension kit. Bikes are shipped to almost any country for a single flat fee.
The Xtracycle is as much a philosophy as a bike. The designs are freely available from the company; Surly Bikes' Big Dummy was the first to use the Xtracycle design for its extended frame. The founder also runs the nonprofit Worldbike, promoting bicycle use, which receives a percentage of Xtrabike's profits.
The Leap offers riders of nearly any adult bike the opportunity to expand carrying capacity and close to double the weight load. Working with bike wheel sizes spanning from 24" through 29er, surprisingly inexpensive, fully functional, and compatible with the same accessory bags, racks, etc. as the Edgerunner, it's an excellent solution for riders looking to take larger loads or children along.
The classic Edgerunner is offered with several geartrains and appropriately sturdy componentry. The powered Edgerunner integrates a Bosch electric motor, making the Edgerunner a near-perfect car replacement. Racks are offered for carrying adult and child passengers, bags for weather-protected cargo, luggage, and more.
Xtracycle is a forerunner in cargo bikes. Today's models are up-to-date, moderately priced, and very practical. Stop by the Xtracycle site and peruse the catalogue - there is a configuration that is just right for your cargo-carrying needs.
