Features

Equilink: Equilink is Felt's patented award-winning suspension design completely that isolates active working suspension from drivetrain or braking influence. The result is ride efficiency like no other suspension platform whether on a 24-hour epic, high-speed short-track loop or aggressive all-mountain terrain.

Control Taper: By using a ControlTaper head tube with 1-1/8” upper bearings and 1-1/2” lower bearings, Felt is able to significantly improve front-end stiffness and steering precision without adding weight to the frameset.

Aluminum: This product uses only the highest quality aluminum tubing available, giving our products the optimal blend of strength, weight, performance and value. We form, taper and shape each tube for its particular placement and end-use. These steps result in a lightweight, responsive frame that minimizes rider fatigue and maintains quality.

Hydroform: The Hydroform manufacturing process is used to create lightweight, stiff and strong aluminum frames. With hydroforming – an internal hydraulic forming process - Felt is able to eliminate the need for gussets and can use radically shaped tubes to optimize the bike’s ride quality.

CVA™ SUSPENSION: The RIP 9 features Niner’s patented CVA suspension (U.S. Patent No. 7,934,739) and delivers 125mm of fully active travel with superb compliance and damping via a tuned for CVA RockShox Monarch RT3 HV shock. For those seeking the technical advantages of 29” wheels combined with pedalling efficiency across all chainring combinations (not just the middle ring), CVA™ is the front-runner. The result? A faster, smoother ride up and down the trail.
VERSATILE GEOMETRY: To progress as a rider you need predictability, balance and nimble handling and Niner is the company that first made fun trail bike 29ers a reality. Climbing or descending, the geometry of the RIP 9 is tuned to keep you in control and ready to conquer new terrain at every turn. The RIP 9 is intended for 120 to 140mm forks, allowing riders to further fine tune the ride.
AIR FORMED TUBING: At just 7lbs for a medium frame, the new RIP 9 pulls within .65lbs (295g) of our carbon flagship RIP 9 RDO frame. To achieve this reduction and actually increase strength over the last RIP 9 frame we looked beyond traditional hydroforming. Shaping the frame tubes with compressed air in a heated mould gives us greater control over wall thickness and material uniformity, allowing the use of less metal. Tubes that are manipulated using this process can be up to 25% lighter than a similar hydroformed shape at the same strength.
TAPERED HEADTUBE: The increased surface area of a tapered headtube allows for a larger downtube, increasing strength and rigidity at this critical intersection. Tapered fork steerer tubes measurably reduce fork deflection, which means your Niner tracks straight and true. The full spectrum of riders from XC racers to All Mountain shredders benefit from these features which is why we incorporate the technology in all our frames.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL: From the head tube to the rear axle, we looked at every single detail and asked “can it be done better?” We’ve revised the shapes of the forged yokes and attachments, subjecting them to mechanical and real world testing to ensure they’re as light and strong as possible. New linkage shapes increase strength and stiffness and shed a few more grams, the lower link has a pronounced asymmetrical form to make room for ISCG tabs and increased chainstay clearance. Larger pivot hardware and a switch to 8mm alloy shock mounting bolts shave weight and increase the bling we love so much. Saving weight doesn’t mean skimping - pivots are still outfitted with Enduro Max full complement sealed cartridge bearings for smooth, friction-free suspension.

C9-12: Our C 9-12 System separates the suspension from braking forces, allowing maximized traction and control under heavy braking. The Orbea C 9-12 system is based around a suspension design that features a rear pivot that is concentric with the rear axle. It allows true separation of braking forces from the swingarm; the seat stays act as a brake floater, much like systems used in motorcycle and auto racing to optimize traction under heavy braking. With the rear wheel following the ground more effectively, you’ll have more control and more confidence in edge-of-control situations. We made sure to provide compatibility for multiple axle systems (QR and 12x142mm) so you can choose whichever you prefer.
Direct Post Mount: The Direct Post Mount offers simpler and cleaner brake integration. This means better performance, less maintenance, and lower weight. The Orbea Direct Post Mount design allows the direct attachment of your rear brake calliper to the mount on the bike frame. Without the addition of an adapter, you’ll benefit from a lighter, stronger system that provides better braking performance and less maintenance. And with no potential for unwanted movement in the system, this virtually eliminates brake chatter and squealing produced by harmonics that can develop in the stacked pieces of typical adapter systems and that can radiate throughout the bike frame.
Sealed Ball Bearings: The ideal suspension would be free from friction. Our Sealed Ball Bearings keep your bike operating as smoothly and efficiently as possible. Our bikes have as many as ten Sealed Ball Bearings. The benefit is terrific sensitivity to bump input from the trail. After all, bike suspensions are designed to move in order to absorb energy to keep your wheel on the ground for traction and control and to give you more comfort. This is why we use sealed cartridge bearings rather than bushings. We even add bearings to the rear shock mount, and this is part of our secret to performance. It makes a difference - it keeps the bike stiff and sensitive, and it reduces friction even though it’s an ultra-compact system and doesn’t add unnecessary weight.
Tapered Head Tube: The Tapered Head Tube is the foundation that provides stiffness and stability for precise handling in all conditions. The forces acting on a head tube can be extreme, especially at high speeds or over rough surfaces. Our Tapered Head Tube provides improved rigidity and steering precision. All of our bikes that use the tapered system get a 1-1/8 to 1-1/2” bearing system. We’ve found that this dimension offers the best balance of weight, function, and durability. The Tapered Head Tube is also a principle element of our frame designs, whether in carbon or hydroformed aluminium, that provides greater stiffness and stability by allowing larger tube junctures at the front of the bike where stresses are high.
Lifetime Frame Warranty: Orbea provides a lifetime warranty on every frame. We have total confidence in our products.
Our constant efforts to ensure that Orbea bicycles are of the highest quality enable us to offer you the Orbea Lifetime Warranty. It guards against defects in materials and workmanship. Your warranty is activated using the unique registration number you'll find on the down tube. Once the process is complete, your bike will automatically receive its lifetime warranty. We'll have a record of your bike information should it get stolen, and you'll be able to take part in our drawings and events. You'll also have access to the latest news about Orbea, its sponsored teams and riders, and new product development.

TRU4-BAR SUSPENSION: More power for your pedal. The Tru4 4-bar mechanism positions the rear axle on the isolated seat stay. This optimises the “virtual pivot point” so the suspension system operates efficiently and independently of rider effects. Enjoy optimum pedalling efficiency as virtually none of your precious energy is wasted bobbing the rear suspension. Your suspension stays supple when braking so you can stop quickly and choose the best line in every corner.
INTEGRATED ROCKER: Better handling from a frame that won’t twist. The key to an accurate-handling and flex-free suspension frame is linking together both sides of the rear triangle as strongly as possible. Avanti’s one-piece integrated rocker link, TruLink, is designed to do just that. It locks both sides together so the frame stays true and rigid under even the highest torsional and sideloads. High rigidity for responsive and accurate handling over the roughest terrain. Light frame weight enhances pedalling efficiency and reduces fatigue.
OPTIMISED LEVERAGE: Easy riding on rough terrain. The Avanti Tru4 design team worked closely with leading shock manufacturers during the frame development to the tune wheel rate. The result is great small bump compliance, more perceived travel and good bottom out protection. Low ratios between wheel travel and shock stroke help control the suspension motion and gives you better control of the bike. Plush feel over rough terrain: supple smooth control. Light weight frame that retains strength and durability.
